A Messy House, A Fuzzy Brain And God’s Sense Of Humour

If you spend your whole life waiting for the storm, you’ll never enjoy the sunshine. Morris West

It’s been a very cold week, with plenty of rain and plenty of personal pain, and so many lessons learned.

Have  you ever had a dream, something that you really wanted, set goals and worked hard to achieve it, yet the road seems rocky and each day starts with a new challenge, at the end of it you climb into bed exhausted and not sure whether you have moved one inch closer to achieving your dream?

This was one of those weeks, growing a business and following your dream often is a lot harder than it looks.

After a rough day out, I came home to a messy house, full sink of dishes, tons of laundry, hungry family and many odds and ends that still needed to be completed before the next day, added to this, I had to be up early for a Professional breakfast the next morning.

You bet I was cranky, and as I fell into bed with my bible, I sat still for a moment, resting back on my pillow and cried out in frustration “ God, I am exhausted, I can’t think straight and I doubt that even if I open this bible in front of me that my fuzzy brain will be able to take anything in – So now I leave it in your hands and ask that when I let this bible fall open you give me a special message “

This might sound silly, I realize that for some it might sound totally strange, but my relationship with my maker is a special one.

Needless to say – I did just that [ dropped my bible onto my lap, it fell open and wow !!! What a revelation]

God has a sense of humour.

A simple short paragraph that said it all.

Sometimes you need to get to a place where you realize that you cannot do it on your own, in your own strength, the harder you strive the more difficult and exhausting it becomes. Sure, you can achieve success, many have and many will on their own steam, what I do know is that often this success is not sustainable.

In this short yet simple verse I learned asking what should I be doing next, looking for answers in the future or for a wondrous sign that might give me a glimpse or confirmation that all the driving, striving , hard work, sweat and tears were worth it, only caused me to become unfocussed, frustrated, exhausted, cranky and miserable that things were not working as quick as I wanted it too.

Instead I learned to ask;

How can I be the best version of me right now in this place that I am at?(  physically, emotionally and spiritually )

So,I let go and let God,  trusting Him to lead my steps and to guide me on my path the process, the walk and the journey becomes a lot less driven, I am able to think with clarity, I am more at peace with myself and the world , opportunities arise where once there was no opportunity and I am a lot more productive and have a sense of fulfillment and peace, an inner knowing that I am exactly where I am meant to be.

A friend once said to me ( after spending a driven week trying to force situations to work my way )

The devil drives hard while God gently leads.

My simple question for you today is this ;

Are you being driven or are you being gently led to fulfill your dreams?

Are you missing out on moment to moment experiences trying to take giant leaps, skipping over processes that you might need on your journey to success, in a hurry to achieve that dream at the expense of your health, your mindset, often your relationships.

Isn’t it time to stop, and take a long hard look at what is around you, to start enjoying the simple pleasures along the way that you might have missed in your haste to get to the top.

As always, your feedback is welcome and I would love to hear of your experience. How do you find that place where you feel fulfilled and at peace?

How driven are you and what is it costing you? Do you have any advise for other readers in terms of your personal journey?
May simple pleasures never pass you by
