Is starting with WHY overrated?
Just this morning while having a few new photo’s taken the conversation with my lovely photographer shifted from taking photo’s to discussing ways in which she could grow her business. I asked her a few questions to uncover the real reasons she started her business, why she does what she does and why this was so important to her. Why? I wasn’t looking for superficial answers – I really wanted to drill down and hear the answers from her heart. You see understanding the deeper reason why my clients have chosen to follow a certain path is so important to me – even more important than having a business plan.

Had she mentioned that she started her business simply to make money, I would have questioned her commitment to making it all happen – to achieving her goals. Money is not a long-term motivator and when things get really tough, without a strong enough reason (YOUR WHY) to cling onto during these tough times, giving up would seem easy and can often become an option to consider. T
he opposite can also be said to be true, when your why is so personal and close to you, it acts as a burning flame and fuels you toward greatness, of achieving your goal no matter the circumstance. “WHY” always finds a way! Simon Sinek, author of best selling book called “Start with Why” philosophy is this;
“Start with Why in everything you do.
The purpose, cause, or belief that inspires you to do what you do?”

So here’s another thought to consider. Why do your clients follow you? What makes you stand out in a crowd? If you’re attracting your own tribe ask them WHY! Why they follow you? Knowing this will help you to tailor your products, service and more importantly your marketing message in such a way so as to attract them. Not in a manipulative way but in a way that helps you to create products and services that serve your audience and fulfils their needs.
This brings me back to; Is starting with WHY overrated?
I think not, but what about you. I love to hear from you. What is your WHY? Why do you do what you do do, be it life or business? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
