The importance of Branding You Inc.

If you’re an internet marketer this article might cause you to feel slightly affronted, uncomfortable or get you thinking, or all three.. depending on how you look at it.

It in no way represents the opinions of others in the industry and is based purely on my personal opinion.

Internet marketing is a great industry; it offers everything a persons little heart desires,

Social interaction with like-minded people
The possibility of a better future
The promise of above average income
Time freedom and so much more

IF

If you follow the correct process, marketing strategies and never ever give up.

Great, so we’re all ready to make our fortunes on the big World Wide Web. We join primary business’s and get connected with people who introduce you to new software programs, training courses and webinars, you join challenges and get given assignments to help you succeed in generating traffic and leads which in internet marketing and direct sales we all have been told is the life blood of our business.

Suddenly, months later you come to the realization that, Freak it man! This is hard work, the bank account is empty and you really hate blogging about keyword / SEO and stuff like that. When this hard shocking reality steps in, where does that leave you?

Ok , Lets get back to the grass roots here for a second and be REAL.

You did not become an internet marketer because you woke one day, had a AHA moment, decided then and there to write about SEO and Keyword searches, link building, prospecting etc,  or maybe you did.

In my case however I didn’t. I became an internet marketer by default. I learn’t a ton of stuff and am so glad I did

But (here’s is the proverbial but)

none of that is something that floats my boat, and the question I have been asking my self for a while is how long can I continue to blog about topics that I really have no interest in.

You might ask; Did you waste your time? What then was the purpose for learning Internet marketing in the 1st place?

Well let me break it down even further;

Who are you? Who am I?
Where does your passion lie? Mine lies in personal and professional development. I am a qualified Advanced practitioner of  Life and Business coaching, a Neuro-Linguistic Practitioner , so why aren’t I blogging about my specific topic, my passion?  Who out there knows that this is what I love to do. Where does any of this appear on my website and that overcoming the biggest obstacle, fear and self doubt is my specialty along with assisting people identify their niche , exact target market, and how to brand themselves in business, using social media.

Why am I not branding myself as an expert in my field and in this way attract the CORRECT kind of people to my website that can connect with me.

Somehow I think we had lost the plot and every one is pushing out content each day commenting on it and sharing it. Do you even know what you’re sharing?

Does your website reflect who you are and what you stand for? Are you proud of some of the stuff you have added to your site? Is it in alignment with your big vision, the dream you are destined to achieve?

If not, isn’t it time you became clear of your outcome, the destination you’re heading for?

Have you branded yourself as a leader in your specialized field? If it’s a “keyword specialist” that you want to become – then good for you, perhaps you need to make this clear on your site so people see you and can identify you as the specialist in that field.

Being a jack-of-all-trades doesn’t work for me, maybe it does not work for you either.

If that’s the case; then I suggest you start off with the first step

Decide what you stand for?
Get clear on your outcome.
Decide what message you want to put out there.
Brand yourself.
Attract like-minded people who are interested in YOU to your site.
Build a relationship

These are the people you want to have join you in your primary business – not the millions of people who come to your website to leave a comment because they’re part of tribe, creating a false sense of security, allowing you to believe that you’re generating tons of traffic. Make sure you understand why you are part of a tribe and what the purpose of belonging to one is.

The stats are skewered. I ‘ll leave you with this and hope to hear you’re thoughts on this.

My services as coach are available and in a few sessions we can get clarity on your niche, brainstorm new branding ideas, Align your brand with your offering and get you moving in the direction of your true goals. Contact me for a Free 30 minute consultation,

I will add this disclaimer:

I am not advising anyone to drop what they are currently doing nor to give up on Internet marketing or direct sales. (I am still continuing with it – my focus has just changed) What I am saying is that some thought of where you’re heading and the process to get there does however need to be considered. It might take even shorten your journey to success.

    Hey Brenda

Great Post you’ve got here.! I totall agree withou you.

These days, branding your company isn’t enough. The world wants to hear what you have to say, If you aren’t building your own brand, your company will suffer. If you want your company to succeed, become an expert in your field, claim a website under your own domain name, connect with the media, and build relationships with your audience.

    all the best

All this hard work effort and energy doesn’t amount to much if you’re heading the wrong direction : ) Thanks for commenting

Hi Brenda, I totally get what you are saying and I have felt some of those feelings before, too. The thing is that in our industry you have to know at least a little of everything. Even if you wind up outsourcing, say, your SEO or writing you still need to know a bit of SEO and how to write so you have an understanding of what goes into it.

Therefore, it is necessary to impart a little information on a lot of topics. Perhaps we should be keeping a seperate blog for our on special niche that we can really brand ourselves on.

And also, just because you have a lot of backlinks and get found on google doesn’t preclude having good content and actually knowing what it is you are talking about.

Great rant, though, and I do agree on most of your points.

The importance of this should not be underestimated – too many people clutter up their blogs with totally contrasting products or services and the visitor is confused and leaves quickly. Clarity about who and what you are is vital if you want to succeed online and you should be targeted enough to NOT relate to everyone.
    Great article Brenda,

Brenda this really hits close to home. I do not want to be like everyone else, I am me and that is what I want to show everyone. I was telling my wife the other day that we have value to bring to people and if we can just get our message in front of enough people then they will be attracted to us. That is where it all starts.
