Coaching Home Business Owners, Are You One Of Them?

As a coach I am always on the lookout for information to assist my clients when making decisions, when moving forward or with insights to get them motivated to engage in stepping up to the next level in their personal or business lives.

My clients are aware of how important it is to have a coach / mentor or counselor close at hand.

Lately I have become more aware that even leading professionals and successful business people as well as celebrities are starting to engage the services of a coach. People like Robert Kiyosaki, Donald trump, Jack Canfield , Darren Hardy , Vic Johnson and recently our own Ray Higdon have their own mentor / coaches.

If these successful entrepreneurs see the value in having a personal coach doesn’t it make you wonder about why they as successful entrepreneurs find value in it. How much are you more likely to succeed if you were to partner with a coach too.

To gain insight as to how a coach can best serve you I am listing 7 reasons why you as a home business owner may need a coach.

Starting a new home business whether offline or online can be a daunting task and the most difficult hurdle to overcome is not one taken lightly.

The biggest obstacle one must face is “self”

In an industry that has a high level of competition and large volumes of information which seem to fill up your inbox daily leaving you feeling overwhelmed and unsure as to what the next step is self doubt creeps in and you feel unsure of what the next step is in your growing home business or if you have not started a home business yet, how to go about it

If this is the case, and I know the above to be true as I myself have dealt with the fears of failure, fear of success, doubt in my own capabilities, at times procrastination and overwhelm at the enormity of the information and task ahead.

So how can you overcome any or all of the above and ensure that success is achieved.

My advice :

Find your self a coach, a mentor, whether a friend or a paid service a coach is a necessity.

An effective coach can see things about yourself that you can’t see yourself  – or perhaps you can, but choose not too, Things that can negatively affect your performance

So what is the coach role?

I like to think of a coach as a tour guide, someone who is able to walk along side you and highlight the areas that require atention to enable you to fulfill your goals

To enable a coach to work with you the coach will first get an understanding as to how you perceive yourself , any limiting beliefs you might hold of yourself as well as any strengths that can be used effectively during the coaching program, In this way the coach is able  manage, improve and maximize your performance. Identifying and helping you to understanding the source of what is keeping you from your goals is one of the most important things a coach can do for you, as it is the first step to moving you forward toward your goals. Having someone else help you discover areas that are limiting your performance or helping to you gain insights as to how to utilise these strengths is typical of what a coach will do.

2. A Coach can help you set personal or business goals & keeps you on that path to achieving them.

Goals can a rather personal…they do not belong to anyone else….they are yours. However, when appointing a coach, your goals are shared and become something that the coach will help you with. Determining which goals are worth pursuing is something that the coach can help you with, from start to end, setting goals , identifying a plan of action and walking you through the implementation process until the goal set has been achieved. Having someone qualified do this with you can help you put things back in to perspective when at times lose site of the path you’re on.

3. A Coach is your best accountability buddy in the truest sense

All of us have slacked off at one time or another, from the activities that we have committed to in order to achieve our respective goals in life. An effective coach doesn’t let you get too far off of the path of success, and gently (or not so), nudges you back to where you need to be. A coach is like an accountability buddy, motivating you, guiding you and if needed a push to enable you to overcome past obstacles and blocks, that could be hindering your performance. A coach will hold you to your action plan and help you keep on track to attaining your goals. Dont think for a minute that the coach is going to do the work.

No! It’s the coach’s job to ensure that you do it.

4. A Coach helps you to identify obstructions.

Worry, Fear, and Doubt are the biggest and most common obstacles to success especially when starting out in a new home business venture. Identifying and understanding the SOURCE of your worries, fears and doubts, is an important aspect in overcoming them.

5. A  Coach helps identify an maximize your gifts and talents

We all have certain gifts and talents, yet at times many of us find it difficult to identify what these talents are. Often talenets are simple things that we do each and everyday, something overlooked at it becomes part of our everyday lives and could be considered unimportant or just something that you automatically do. With the aid of a coach you will  able to identify whether something as simple as great organisations skills or lack there of can be utilised effectively to improve your life and or home business.

6. A Coach helps you to maximize your productivity.

How often do you get distracted by trivial things during the day , email, skype messages popping up  and hindering you from your actual productive home business income producing activities. Many activities during the day keep us busy but certainly not productive – I once remember someone asking me how my day was. I simply answered, “Busy” with that he turned around and said “busy” or “productive”. You see there is a difference between the you, you could spend your entire day being busy without achieving anything to move you towards the achievement of your goal. Your coach will help you identify way to reduce ineffectiveness by assisting you with setting measurable goal attaining activities throughout the da

7. A Coach does not accept or tell you BS!

A true coach is not there to blow sunshine up your ^$%$. Of course they will be friendly, approachable and professional. A good coach however will also be direct, honest and at times tell you what you NEED to hear, not always what you WANT to hear, but it will always be in a respectful manner, helping you  identify habits that are not serving you in the accomplishment your personal or professional home business goals.

To your success.

I love how you mention that a coach is not gonna take your stuff. A good coach is not always going to be your ‘friend’. Invest in a coach.

Great post Brenda… I think a lot of people have the misconception that successful people are ‘super human’ beings that ‘got there’ through some unfair advantage when the truth in most circumstances is that in the background there was a coach chipping away with heat and pressure to reveal the diamond within.
