12 Marketing Principles For Your Home Business.

I came across these 12 fundamental  marketing principles that apply to most start up home business’s today, I forget where I saw this but decided to share the ideas with you to assist you in the growth of your perfect home business. ( Just found my source of information – these principles were originally presented in a book called “Guerrilla Marketing”  by Jay Conrad Levinson in the late 90,s, )

We often think that marketing principles apply only to certain business’s , the larger more well know business’s with the bigger marketing budget. With this in mind we tend to put aside the fact that an important strategy most small business’s need to get their message out is,

Most large  corporations  generally have large marketing budgets, as well as employees who manage and the marketing campaigns successfully. In a smaller business thinking about ways to market yourself and your business can be quite intimidating and many times people stop as a result of overwhelm, not knowing where to start, not having simple workable plan and finding themselves spending money on areas that don’t need attention.

Listed below I will share with you what I have taken from the article mentioned above – Please note ;

Using these 12 marketing principles could lead to substantial profits in your online home business

1. Your largest investments will be time, energy, and imagination…not money.

2. It is important to understand copy writing, so that you can understand and speak directly to your target audience in all of your sales copy.

3. It is important to measure successful marketing strategies by profits, not by sales volume.

4. Successful marketing relies on knowing the numbers and buying habits of your target audience, not on guesswork.

5. Focus on delivering excellence with your main product or service. When you decide to expand your product line, be sure that your offers are closely related to your main product. Always think excellence, and avoid being perceived as watered- down.

6. Continue to acquire new customers, but also look for ways to earn repeat sales, and larger transactions from your existing customer base.

7. Look for opportunities to work with your competition.

8. Find a combination of marketing strategies that generate the best results for you. For example it could be a combination of using a blogging, articles, and social media, mixed with postcards. Each part of your marketing funnel will help the other work better.

9. Focus on building new relationships. Good relationships can lead to multiple sales.

10. Technology is your friend. Don’t be afraid of it. New advances in technology provide more and more leverage in marketing for the home business owner every day.

11. There are many tools available that will boost profits in your business. Many are free. Be aware of the tools and resources that you have available.

12. Keep it simple. Don’t over complicate your marketing. This will put you in control of your business.

Marketing simplified, I say. My favourite is no # 12 – what’s yours? When online marketing strategies start to get complicated, take 5 minutes , go through this list again to get clear on what you need to do or contact me for a quick chat ( yes this is an open invitation and I MEAN IT )

WOW, I love number 9 – the power of relationships. Business is built on it and those who say they never call their leads are just missing a big part of it.

Brenda these are all great but I am with you, #12 is my favorite. Keep it simple. That goes for most things, once we over complicate things then things start to go wrong.

    Brenda,

So glad you published this. I read this book back in the ’90’s but never implemented the lessons fully. Now, I’m so committed to making guerrilla marketing work that I’m obsessed with it. =) I like them all.

    Brenda,

Great tips here. My favorites are # 3 and # 6.

Profits always trump revenue. It doesn’t matter how much you make; it’s how much you keep.

I’ve also found it easier to sell more products and services to existing customers than it is to go find new customers.

Great, great post. Thanks for sharing.
